Day 40: Bacon-Apple Figs

Today for Tasty Tuesday, we made bacon-apple figs!

A little gruesome looking, but oh so good!

Since we still have a glut of apples from our apple picking excursion last month, it was about time to cook up some delicious goodies with our Jonagolds and Golden Delicious apples. Obviously, bacon-apple figs are not the most conventional October treats, but that only makes them cooler in my humble blogger opinion. After all, not everything should be apple pie. Today's recipe comes courtesy of Food Network. There are a whole bunch of other awesome recipes on that link too, so bake away!

A Halloween blogger preparing to cook. Please note that super boss apron. Thanks, Mom!

So the first step is to slice a hole in the figs. Then you stuff it with diced apples!

After that, you prepare the bacon. We cut each of our slices down the middle
to get more bacon for our Halloween buck.

Next, you start wrapping that bacon around the apple-stuffed fig!

And stab it with a toothpick to hold it together!

Stab! Stab! STAB!

Look at that smugly happy face, all satisfied that I just skewered an
innocent fig. What. A. Monster.

Finally, put those figs in the oven for about ten minutes or so,
and you'll have a delightful, albeit a little ugly, treat.

A close-up of today's delicacy. Yum!

This fig looks like it's trying to scream for help. Mwhahaha!

That's all we've got for today! Head on back tomorrow! Same Halloween time, same Halloween place!
