Day 30: Bird Skull Necklace

On this Saturday afternoon, we made a bird skull necklace!

No birds were injured in the making of this necklace. I can't say the
same thing for beads, though. Seriously, it was like a massacre,
dead beads rolling off the table from every direction.

We're still prepping the cats for their photo shoot tomorrow (think Norma Desmond in that montage scene from Sunset Boulevard, only with more hairballs and less cold cream), so we went the craft angle today instead and designed a macabre necklace. A great way to kick off October, if I do say!

As always, directions and snark in the captions!

Unlike the cats, this skull was ready for its close-up. It is, of course, less
animate than Rose and McQueen, but still.

Today's project started with a lot of scowling. No reason really.
Just a scowl for good measure!

"Well, this craft isn't going to make itself, so I might as well start snipping!"

Once the length of wire was cut, we used a guide to help line up all the pieces.
You don't need this guide, but it did help with the counting!

A close-up of the guide. To be fair, once I added the beads between
the main skull and its backup singers, I decided to move all the
skulls closer together. They were more comfortable that way.

Then I strung those beads on the wire. String, little blogger! String!

"This is fun! Beading helps to keep the existential dread away!
Really! I swear!" *laughs nervously*

"I lied. The existential dread is still alive and well, and it's totally ruining
my necklace." *sobs quietly into her bead skulls*

After some philosophical soul searching concerning the ontological
purpose of bead skulls, I got it together enough to mostly finish
my necklace. Mostly.

However, the loops on either end were confusing, so Bill did those parts for
me. As a general FYI, all the bead supplies featured today were his,
not mine. Really, Bill is the actual crafty one of the two of us;
I just like to hog the spotlight.

And there I am, hogging the spotlight! Also, note the shadow in the upper
left corner of the picture. That's our gourd bat from a project past!
Basically, after five years of 60 Days of Halloween, our house is one
giant craft project. For good or ill...

So that's our project today! Join us tomorrow as we wrangle cats! Hooray!
