Day 9: Lighted Pumpkins

For today's craft, we created a festive piece for our mantle featuring lighted pumpkins!

A little haphazard looking, but we'll just call it rustic!

Now let's get down to the technical nitty-gritty here: this craft is really just a stick with lights and tulle wrapped around it. We didn't create the lighted pumpkins; they were purchased fully assembled last year at Witches Night Out in Volant, Pennsylvania. We didn't weave the tulle on a loom. But! We did find the stick in our backyard. I know---that's some hard work, right?

To be fair, though, our backyard is pretty big.

And this is only a small slice of it. There are also, like, half a dozen hills to climb.

Plus, we didn't just select the first piece of discarded bark we found either. So since life is all about the journey, join us in our search for today's craft parts!

We started the search at the fallen tree that collapsed on our property earlier
this year. Because doesn't everyone have random trees hanging out
at their house like a beer-swilling college buddy that never leaves?

Sadly, there were no good craft parts here. Note the forlorn look on my face.
"I thought for sure we'd discover the perfect stick here!"

So the quest continues! I'm happy again because I realize that my day consists
of communing with nature and uncovering sticks. Like, am I doing
this adult thing right or what?

Along the way, we met some friends! These caterpillars were lounging on
milkweed and will soon become monarch butterflies. Hooray
for nature!

And here are some super cool fallen acorns. Totally Halloween appropriate!

At last, on one of our hills, I spotted it---the perfect Halloween stick!

Bill was kind enough to retrieve the stick for me, and because it was
enormous, he even cut it down to size for us. Festive gallantry
in action! If only more guys were willing to help their partners with
random Halloween projects, the world would be a better place.

And here I am with my giant Halloween stick! Life is good.

So back at the homestead, the pieces were assembled. Please note that we
ultimately added another string of regular orange lights to the mix,
just so the pumpkins had some backup.

And here's the bulk of the work: wrapping the stick in tulle. Seriously.
Our walk was our major exertion for today's blog.

And a parting look at our pumpkins on a stick!

Look at that sweet little face!

That about wraps it up today (wrap--get it? Like how we wrapped a stick with tulle? Yeah, you're right; that joke was bad even for this blog). Anyhow, join us tomorrow for more silly crafts and silly commentary!
