Day 4: Creepy Lace Candles

Happy Labor Day! As part of our long weekend craft extravaganza, we created creepy lace candles!

And we didn't even burn down the house!

Today's craft once again hails from Country Living. We have a few more planned crafts that we've found on this site, and of course, we're eager to create some strange crafts all our own for 2016. The latter group will probably be more disastrous, but at least this blog won't get boring!

Supplies are pretty simple: tempera paint, paintbrush, lace, and some candles.

Obligatory happy blogger picture. It's always nice to start with eager ambition!

We tried several different approaches (e.g. wrapping lace around
candle and painting it that way), but ultimately we found that
painting the lace directly was the easiest.

Once the lace was painted, we transferred it to fresh paper and
rolled the candle over it. This takes some patience to ensure that
you cover the whole candle without any messy overlap.

At this point in the craft, I'm entirely unconvinced. Seriously,
look at that side-eye.

So then we moved on to the bigger candle. With my brow knit,
I'm still suspicious.

This is probably my favorite picture of today. In an effort not to smear
the paint, I appear terrified to even go near it, like the little boy
at the end of Time Bandits. "It's evil! Don't touch it!"

Fortunately, the pattern on the bigger candle turned out much better,
so I'm much happier here.

One more shot of today's project! They look pretty creepy in low light!

And that's all we've got today! Head on back here tomorrow for more Halloween goodness!
