Day 59: Cat Photo Shoot

Today we wrangled cats and took pictures of the results!

McQueen is suspicious already...

Obviously, it's a little late in the year for us to create our usual Halloween cards, which is somewhat of a shame, just because it's one of my favorite fall traditions. However, much of our trepidation in doing this photo shoot came from the addition of one little calico cat named Rose of Sharon. We didn't know how she'd react to being photographed, and we didn't know how McQueen would deal with sharing the spotlight. So here's what we found...

At first, it was just McQueen on the backdrop. Rose poked McQueen
through the paper, which totally made McQueen think there was a
ghost in the photo equipment.

Of course, McQueen was too busy eating catnip to care too much
about any so-called ghosts.

Rose spent the bulk of the photo shoot cowering at the edge.
She's a lot more camera shy than McQueen.

However, thanks to Rose's adulation of McQueen, she did eventually
emerge from hiding!

As you can see, they were supposed to be witches. There was a witch
broom and even a witch hat like the one we made yesterday!

But they showed no interest in being witches. Something about it being
"inappropriate." At one point, McQueen even handed me one of those
illustrated religious pamphlets showing how cats who dress as witches
burn in a lake of fire. I tried to ask her where she got the brochure,
but that cat's keeping mum...

"I don't want to burn in fire!" "Neither do I! Let's fight!"

"I think I won that round! No fire and brimstone for me!"

We did briefly get the hat on her, but it didn't last. McQueen
was far too adamant about that whole anti-witch sentiment.

McQueen totally looks like she's hugging the hat in this image.
She's not. She's biting it.

This is McQueen informing me that yesterday was National Cat Day.
"You're a day late and a dollar short again, Mom!"

"Ooh! What's in here? Better not be a broomstick! Because
broomsticks are gateways to the dark arts!"

"Oh, no! It is a broomstick! It's trying to pull me under its thrall!"

"I hate you both, you filthy Samhain-loving humans."

"What's a good cat like me to do in a bad situation like this?"

"I'll attack the pumpkins, that's what!"

"Okay, fine. You can get one more picture of me with a witch hat.
But that is IT!"

Okay, some of those captions might be dramatizations of what really happened. As in, we used catnip and a laser pointer, and McQueen isn't quite so bigoted against Wiccans. But you get the general idea.

Anyhow, that's it for today. Join us again tomorrow for the big final day!
