Day 39: The Barn

I would like to introduce you to the new horror movie on the block: Nevermore Production Films' The Barn.

Vintage, creepy, and cool.

So if you're in the know, you've probably already heard of The Barn. It's this super rad soon-to-be released horror film that pays homage to the 1980s VHS era of slasher flicks. The film even takes place on Halloween, so it's entirely festively appropriate for this blog. Recently, there was a majorly successful IndieGoGo campaign to get the film officially off the ground promotion-wise, and now The Barn is scheduled to make its world debut on Halloween weekend.

Back when production was still underway, I interviewed both director Justin Seaman and star Mitch Musolino about the film. I am pretty sure if you're cool, then you'll read that interview over at Micro-Shock. The article was one of my earliest pieces as a formal arts and culture journalist, and it remains one of my personal favorites.

of The Barn. I'm just borrowing them for today.

I first learned about The Barn from Mitch who was among my most promising acting students from those dark days when I used to be an acting instructor. Yes, I used to teach acting to teenagers for a modeling agency out of Pittsburgh, and no, I don't want to talk about it except in group therapy. Anyhow, the point is Mitch rocks and is seriously headed for the top of the acting world. In fact, I wholly expect him to go forth in Hollywood and win lots of awards. I also expect that during his award speeches, he will thank me personally, his always supportive mentor, for being the cool person that I am. Are you reading this, Mitch? I thought so...

During production of The Barn, Justin actually invited me to be murdered on screen, and I would have loved to have been one of the many sliced and diced victims, but I was already committed for volunteer work on the afternoon of filming. Ironically, the nonprofit where I was volunteering--the Hollywood Theater in Dormont--is the location of the two-night premiere for the film. So I guess everything in life is a little circular, huh?

So if you're in the Pittsburgh area, be sure to check out The Barn on either Saturday, October 31st or Sunday, November 1st. If not, keep your eyeballs peeled because this is definitely one horror flick that you won't want to miss.
