Day 32: Gourd Critters

For our Saturday night activity, we designed gourd critters!

A blood cat, a pumpkin, and a goofy bat. Does this just scream Halloween or what?

Over the summer, we went to Meadowbrook Gourds in central Pennsylvania, a cute little factory store that celebrates--what else?--gourds. The purveyors offer seasonal gourd classes along with a variety of gourd crafts. They also sell gourd kits, the contents of which are basically a dried and hollowed out gourd with some decorative trimmings. Super low-key and super fun. So tonight, Bill and I ordered pizza, put on some coffee, and got to painting!

The basics for my pumpkin gourd. Easy enough, right?

This is really about it. Get out the acrylics and slap that color on there!

And look! My errant swathe of bangs made its usual cameo. Can't have
a craft unless my hair looks like it should belong to a mad scientist!

Pensive blogger. Here I am contemplating the deeper ontological
reasons behind the Samhain celebration. I revel, therefore I am. Just
kidding! I was really just sitting there, thinking about the color orange.
Almost fooled you for a second!

To give it a bit of flair, I painted a spider on the back of
my pumpkin. Because why not?

Bill made the blood cat, and in the blood cat kit, there was a mini
gourd. We decided to turn it into a bat. So I painted a ridiculously
sloppy bat face, complete with fangs, and we had us a third critter!

The bat tried to lurk above the other gourds but he sort of
vanished into the woodwork.

Slower exposure of the bat lurking. Or doing his best at lurking.
He is only a gourd, you know. Cut him some slack!

And that does it for today's craft! Join us again tomorrow as we muck up even more Halloween revelry!
