Day 28: Baked Apples

Welcome to another Tasty Tuesday! This afternoon, we took the easy way out and made baked apples!

They're a little burnt but oh-so-good anyhow.

No major mishaps to report (though yesterday, I did stab my finger trying to open the plastic around some Halloween ornaments, so that's got to count for something, right?). You can find today's recipe here. We followed the directions pretty closely; the only swap we made was maple sugar for the vanilla sugar. That was mostly because we wanted to use up the last of our maple sugar that's been hanging around the house for far too long, but maple's festive too, so really, why not?

Anyhow, let's get started with our Tasty Tuesday culinary treat!

Our ingredients! Not pictured: the maple sugar. Just use your imagination...

First, you peel the apples. The peel comes off like tendrils,
so be sure to make your best Cthulhu joke.

Mix up the dry ingredients, which are basically just a couple spices
and some sugar. We went super low maintenance today.

Once the apples are peeled and sliced, and the sugar and spice are mixed up,
it's time to get those apples into the baking dish!

Oh wait! First you have to break up the weird clumps in your dry ingredients.
Why does everything we make end up looking like it has tiny alien eggs
infesting it?

Then, at last, you start layering the apples. That means you just kind
of toss them in the baking dish. It's artless, but hey.

For each layer, sprinkle on some of the sugar and spice.

Cook for 45 minutes in the oven, adding a bit of water after thirty minutes. And when you're done, you'll have something that looks like this!

It's a little grotesque but it's delicious. Add some ice cream, and
you've got a decent snack.

And that's it for today! A pretty easy recipe for once! Join us tomorrow for more Halloween shenanigans!
