Day 19: Witches Night Out

On Saturday evening, we returned to Volant, Pennsylvania for our third consecutive visit to Witches Night Out!

Witches to the left of me! Witches to the right of me! Witches everywhere!

Sad news this year: it rained pretty profusely, which diminished the duration of our witch revelry. That's not to say we didn't have a good time. Naturally, any event in Volant is a fantastic occasion. But I will say there might not be anything more disheartening than a bunch of witches, young and old, in the rain. Way sadder than a cake. Take that, Richard Harris.

Obscure "MacArthur Park" jokes aside, we fortunately arrived with enough time to do our jobs as good little capitalists and buy ridiculous amounts of Halloween items. As I've mentioned before, the town of Volant really understands how to come together as a community for special events. Throughout town, every shop was decorated with witch flair. It's a great fall time, thunderstorm notwithstanding.

A Volant spider web. Way better than an average spider web.

Since the rain kept us from getting many photographs (because seeing how there are more than forty days left in our festive celebration, we can't risk the camera for a few waterlogged images), I'll give you a glimpse of some of the cool creations we've claimed as our own thanks to Witches Night Out!

The fall mother lode!

What a coincidence! Volant was selling a stylized rendition of McQueen and me!

A creepy hand bidding you welcome. Really, what could go wrong?

An odd purchase since I actually don't have my ears pierced

A close-up of the pumpkin mason jar lights. Coming soon: a strange
craft I already have planned for these guys.

If you want to learn more about what usually goes on at Witches Night Out, including the Witch Parade (which is just as awesome as it sounds) and the costume contest, including pet costumes, check out my posts from 2014 and 2013. Also, take heart, witch fans: the 60 Days of Halloween will be back at the event next year. Come rain or shine, we'll get you, Volant--and your little shops too!
