Day 8: Monster Crafts

Today, Bill and I created monster crafts!

And they didn't turn out half bad!

After yesterday's debacle, I didn't want another failed experiment on this blog. So we did the only thing we could to ensure a success: we completed children's crafts. I know, I know: it's an extreme measure, but Halloween bloggers have got to do what they've got to do to survive. You can find today's projects here and here. What I really like about the Frankenstein's Monster bottle and the tin can centerpieces is that they both repurpose recyclables. It's nice to reuse things rather than throwing them away. Plus, of course, it's cheaper, so that's good too.

So here's what you'll need for these projects:

Look how pretty! Way better than flat gingerbread!

For both projects, you need double-sided tape. For the Frankenstein's monster bottle, you also need a green bottle (we used Pellegrino), a black Sharpie, and some black cardstock. For the centerpieces, you need clean tin cans, scrapbooking paper, and some artificial flowers. Or real flowers. Or dead flowers. Your choice after all.

And here we go!

The reanimated monster is super easy: you just draw a face. The
hardest part will be deciding whether to use Boris Karloff
or Christopher Lee as your model.

And that's pretty much it! Draw a face and
smile while holding up your creation!

As you can see, I leaned more toward the Christopher Lee monster.

For the tin can centerpieces, cut out a piece of scrapbooking paper
that will comfortably cover your tin can.
Then put double-sided tape on the back...

... and start wrapping!

I allowed the paper to overlap a bit. It's more secure that way.

Here I am working on my second tin can. That's how well today went:
I actually made extra crafts!

Midway through, McQueen decided to grace us with her presence. By the
look on her face, she also decided to call up some demons from hell to join us.
Darn it, McQueen! I told you to stop calling collect to the underworld!

This was moments before I realized the bats were on upside down,
so I had to redo it. Fortunately, it was easy to fix since,
you know, kids' craft and all.

And there's the corrected bats, flying the proper direction!

Around this time, we also realized we forgot
Frankenstein Monster's bolts. Also an easy fix.

Ooh! Creepy, autumnal flowers!

One last look at today's success story!

That's it for this afternoon's project. Head on back here tomorrow for more 60 Days of Halloween goodies!
