Day 7: Pumpkin Gingerbread

For today's first Tasty Tuesday of the year, we prepared a very flat and very bland pumpkin gingerbread loaf!

I taste like mud!

To a casual observer, it might appear given the frequency of our kitchen mishaps, that we screw up our recipes on purpose. After all, it does make for better blogs. But allow me to assure you that no, we do indeed try to create good recipes. Unfortunately, we rarely succeed.

Case in point: this Tuesday's pumpkin gingerbread disaster. You can find the recipe we used here; I assume that the law of averages alone will ensure you have a better outcome than we did. Because if nothing else, we here at 60 Days of Halloween are most certainly the outliers, and not on the positive, culinary genius side.

So let's get started with our latest mistake!

Ingredients shot. These eggs and flour deserve better.

Every recipe starts with a placidly optimistic Halloween blogger.
Look at the hope in my eyes! It won't be there for long!

So far, so good!

Okay, a little gross, but that's a normal stage of baking, right?
From ingredients to gross to delicious!

This is my favorite shot of today's blog. It's the moment when
I realize I'd been cutting the recipe in half until the last
ingredient. Now the batter has twice the water needed,
making it a soggy mess.

Quick! Try to work backwards and add double everything else!

Maybe things will still turn out okay. I mean,
there's a chance, right?

No, sadly there was no chance. Also, I probably could have
mixed the flour a little better. Not only is the gingerbread
flat, but it also looks like it has alien eggs infiltrating the batter.

I'm honestly going to make a concerted effort to create a more photogenic recipe next week. We'll see how that goes. I have a better chance of alien eggs infiltrating my brain. Hey, maybe they can bake better than I can! Here's to hoping!
